The Ippei Blade (Katana) is very good because it has instant charging. You have to be far along in the 2nd DLC to get a straight sword with instant charging from the game* so until then, you can get a lot of good use out of the Ippei Blade. It also looks good - but it's about a thousand years out of time, historically, if you care about that.

You mean the story DLCs that come with the season pass? I think so, absolutely. But you should probably play the base game for a little while to see if you like it. And I wouldn't recommend you waste your free credits on any time savers, especially not on the map reveals. I'd say get a neat piece of gear instead, like a useful weapon or something.
